A woman reportedly had a strange experience trying to return a dress at Saks Fifth Avenue — and she’s warning shoppers to be careful.
Brittany Paige, a TikTok creator, has gone viral with a three-part story of the incident, amassing over 550,600 collective views and prompting viewers to share that they allegedly had nightmare experiences with the luxury retailer as well.
“There is something extremely strange going on with Saks,” she claimed in the first video, posted in September. 27.
“They’re basically ripping people off and scamming people left and right,” she claimed before getting into the whole story.
Paige explained that while shopping for bridesmaid dresses for her sister’s wedding, she ordered several dresses from Saks as options, including a $700 Ramy Brook dress. She said it was a “brag” but she wanted to give it a shot.
She tried it on for “maybe five minutes” but ultimately decided on a different dress and sent this one back. After about a month passed, Paige supposedly received the dress in the mail from Saks.
Paige said she had been waiting for her refund and clarified in the text of the video that she allegedly “never received an email saying they refused the return nor did the status change on the customer portal.”
On Saks Fifth Avenue’s website, it says that rejected returns will be returned “with an explanation.”
But Paige reportedly didn’t get an explanation until she called customer service and the agent told her the return was rejected “because it had stains and smelled of deodorant and looked worn.”
Paige said she and her mother inspected the dress that was returned to her and there was “nothing wrong” with it. She then claims she submitted eight “complete” photos of the dress to customer service, showing the dress was in new condition, so they could open a box.
Later that day the company allegedly emailed her and told her that “due to the deodorant stains and body odor they will not accept the return.”
Paige called customer service again and got in touch with a “really nice” representative who agreed there was nothing wrong with the garment, but she allegedly said she didn’t have the authority to issue the return.
“Every time I’ve mentioned asking to speak to a manager at Saks, they get really pushy about it and they try to stop you from asking,” Paige claimed, adding that she eventually spoke to someone after insisting, but they had “No authority to do anything anyway.”
She said she was told the only thing she could do was wait for another email to see if they would accept the dress or not.
But that wasn’t the only incident Paige had with the luxury store.
She had bought two other dresses before this one and returned them, and it took her 60 days to get her money back, saying she calls customer service every week for the status of the refund. The Saks website says returns generally take up to 30 days to process.
“Thankfully I got a refund on those other dresses, but this one I just have a bad feeling about,” she said.
“Recently, I have not one, but two friends who have told me that they bought something from Sak’s and Saks sent them another item and when they tried to return it, Saks didn’t accept the return,” she shared.
One of the friends allegedly bought her husband a Gucci wallet for Christmas and she received a wallet of lesser value. The other friend bought sneakers and was allegedly sent a different pair of sneakers, different brands, two different sizes.
“They’re robbing people, they’re scamming people, there’s something up there, and I’m warning you if you’re looking to make an expensive purchase, or really any purchase, don’t buy anything from Saks,” she claimed.
The commentators let Paige off now that she wasn’t alone.
“This is like the 5th Sax nightmare story I’ve heard of,” one person wrote.
“HEY! I’m actually having a physical response to watching your TikTok because that’s exactly what happened to me. It took me 6 stupid months,” claimed another.
“The same thing happened to me! But karma finally caught up with them when I bought a $130 bracelet that was on sale and they sent me a $2k bracelet instead,” someone else said.
“The same thing happened to me with a very expensive wedding dress. I tried it like you for 5 minutes and went through the whole ordeal you went through,” said one user.
“Omg the same thing happened to my mom! Same story, deodorant stains (none) and I couldn’t get them back. She called, emailed photos, and has spoken several times. They will not allow the return,” wrote one.
The comments of the same or similar cases happening to other users go on and on.
A Saks spokesperson said in a statement to The Post: “In the retail industry, there has been an increase in online fraud, particularly regarding returns. As such, we have added more rigorous steps to our returns process , including additional quality control and stronger validation.
“In some cases, this has unfortunately resulted in longer than expected processing times for returns. Our top priority is to ensure that our customers enjoy the luxury shopping experience that Saks is known for, and we will continue to take steps to improve our processes moving forward.”
Additionally, Paige shared with The Post that she received a call Friday from someone who works for Saks’ executive team, telling her that they were aware of her circumstances, were sorry for the inconvenience, and would personally dealt with the ongoing issue.
The Saks employee gave Paige a Fedex return label and assured her that she wouldn’t end up in an endless cycle. On Monday the employee followed up with Paige and said the package was scanned on Saturday and she would process the refund. The refund is currently pending on Paige’s credit card statement.
Paige isn’t sure if she was contacted because her video went viral or because she filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or a combination of the two.
She said in a follow-up to TikTok that her gut feeling was that it was because of the video, but she got a message from the BBB saying the retailer said they had resolved the issue.
“I’m still very angry and frustrated and honestly I just said that so many people have had similar or exact experiences with Saks,” she said. “Customers shouldn’t have to make a video and hope it goes viral in order to get a refund they’re entitled to.”
